What a Dysregulated Nervous System Feels Like (and how to gently shift it)

What a Dysregulated Nervous System Feels Like (and how to gently shift it)

There was a time I didn’t have the words for what I was feeling.

I just knew something didn’t feel right.

My body felt on edge.
My mind wouldn’t switch off.
Even when everything around me was “fine”… I didn’t feel calm.

Looking back now, I understand —
my nervous system was in overdrive, locked and overwhelmed.

And if you’re here, you might recognise this feeling too.

Signs your nervous system may be overwhelmed

  • You feel constantly “on” or wired
  • You struggle to fully relax, even when resting
  • You feel overstimulated or easily overwhelmed
  • Your mind races, especially at night
  • You feel disconnected from yourself

This isn’t something you need to fix.

It’s your body gently asking for support.

A gentle way to begin shifting

Instead of trying to force yourself to calm down…
What if you simply allowed yourself to soften?

Try this:

👉 Place one hand on your heart
👉 One hand on your belly
👉 Close your eyes
👉 Take a slow breath in through your nose
👉 Exhale softly through your mouth

Stay here for a few moments.

No pressure.
No expectation.

Just a quiet return to yourself.

You are not broken

Your body is not working against you.

It’s doing exactly what it was designed to do — protect you.

And when you begin to feel safe again, even in small moments…
everything starts to shift.

Through gentle practices like embodied yoga, Reiki and breath,
you can begin to regulate, soften and reconnect.

Not all at once.

But slowly.

Naturally.

In your own time.
